Perth, how did I get here?
Well, after postponing my cycle adventure to return from Mackay in North Queensland to Sale in Victoria, via Melbourne to visit my ailing mum, I had the opportunity to set off again. With Mr Surly boxed up, sans Bob, I took a flight to Perth.
Perth itself is in a state of renewal at present with the old and the new seemingly jostling for space and attention. The city authorities are working on bringing the Swan River closer to the CBD, while the healing effects provided by those Indian Ocean winds, sooth the populace who are relaxed, friendly and comfortable in their space, why wouldn’t they be.
My cycling intentions are clear: Ride the South West of Western Australia visiting the iconic towns of Freemantle, Mandurah, Bunbury, Margaret River, Albany and Esperence before embarking onto the Nullabor Plain. Isolation, wild camping, limited water and stars without light pollution.
Many touring cyclists say that crossing the Nullabor, is a transformative experience, I will let you know.
