Day 1 – Melbourne to Seymour

DSCN2809

I said I’d leave when all the leaves had fallen off the Box Elder in the backyard so today was the day I headed north to a warmer climate.

Curtis was true to his word and arrived just before 7 am and he and Therese cheered me off into the overcast morning.

A building north-westerly wind made the initial going through the northwestern suburbs challenging. Just when I needed company,  Andy rode up alongside me and said “Cuppa tea Governor?” Bless his cycling socks he didn’t make me drink out of the Essendon Football Club mug.

We pulled into a service center and Andy produced his thermos. After bidding farewell I pushed off into the morning. Long rises of a reasonable gradient were followed by gradual descents while the wind abated and the sun came out. My speed picked up Mr Surly (my bike), and Bob (my trailer) and I enjoyed a radiant afternoon.

Today’s stats: 2 kangaroos, numerous Rosella’s, Plovers, Rainbow Lorikeets, and only 1 flat tire!  Thankfully not mine, but I did stop to help a guy who needed assistance. My good deed for the day, storing up some positive Karma.

Day 1

I arrived safely in Seymour and was going to free camp under the stars just out of town, but opted for a camping spot in a caravan park where I could have a shower. A great first day after a pensive start.

Shepperton tomorrow.
