Ghastly is the best way to describe the weather these last couple of days: Cold wet and windy, with a dusting of snow on the Stirling Ranges here in the South West. Snow in Western Australia!

Light showers with the associated rainbows were my traveling companions today along with lots of small birds Robins and Whistlers, Fantails and Fairy Wrens. I took the secondary road to Nannup via Rosa Brook with its “olde worlde” general store.

Nannup road had little traffic, but wonderful forested countryside. With the grass trees massing like triffids near the verge as if waiting to cross or snare the unsuspecting.
Incessant showers came and went. So I was soaking wet, then dried out, then wet again. My patience with the weather is being tested.

I was able to ride a small section of the Munda Biddi trail, however, the seemingly unremitting downpours of the last week had turned parts of the trail into a quagmire. I will have a chance again tomorrow to pick up the trail to Manijimup.

I managed to use a gap in the showers to put my tent up and get my camp site organised. I don’t mind if the heavens open again this evening, just as long as I can keep dry and warm.

I’m loving the jarrah trees.

Nannup has a timber processing mill, a country music festival in March, a couple of funky cafés along with a nice historic feel. I also saw a monument to the first National service man to be killed in the Vietnam war.
